Oh, What a Night!
Our first PTO meeting of the year was a major success, with Caddell Hall full to overflowing. We started the evening with a sumptuous meal, featuring fried chicken, turkey tetrazzini, empanadas, tamales, macaroni salad, cookies, candy, and a plethora of other delicious entres, sides, and desserts. Thanks so much to all families who participated; it was a wonderful community-building event. After dinner, we held a short meeting so that everyone could meet each teacher and School Advisory Board member. Sign-up sheets were provided so that all parents were able to volunteer to serve on a variety of committees. If our first meeting was any indication, we are going to have a FANTASTIC school year!!! Go Eagles!
So Many Donuts!
On Wednesday morning students and their grandparents (and other family members) enjoyed nearly thirty dozen donuts after our annual Grandparents’ Mass. A procession of students from all grades started our liturgical celebration by presenting special items representing the love shown to them by their grandparents. At the homily, Msgr. Hofmann discussed the importance of grandparents, and used the analogy of an Angel Oak to demonstrate their “timelessness.” Middle school students had practiced our Mass songs ahead of time so that we could truly please God with our singing. It was a team effort to show our Grandparents our appreciation, and all present were honored. Thanks to all families who attended this special Mass and reception! Just a reminder that all families are always welcome to attend each weekly school Mass; we love to share our faith with you.
ITBS Testing Reminder
Students in grades 1-8 will be undergoing standardized testing, starting on Monday, September 21st, and running through Wednesday, September 30th, at the latest. Please plan for your children to get enough sleep, eat a good breakfast, be on time for school, and don’t plan any appointments that will take them out of class during that time period. Testing will be conducted, for the most part, before lunch, to ensure maximum energy. We will still have “Specials” during the testing period. Good Luck, Eagles!
For Your Reading Pleasure…
Enclosed with your packet today you will find an assortment of student essays for your enjoyment. Mrs. Tanner’s class, grades 3 and 4, wrote about how to share their faith. They were so outstanding, we felt it would be beneficial to share with all of our families. Thanks to Mrs. Tanner and her students for providing us with this religious enrichment.
Students in grades 2-8 are required to utilize the homework notebook provided by the school to write down work each night, and to keep track of upcoming projects, etc. Please check your child’s homework notebook each night to make sure he or she is practicing this habit. The homework is also provided on our school website, but it is of utmost importance that each child takes responsibility for writing it down in the notebook. (The website is just a “double-check” opportunity for parents. Sometimes, due to circumstances beyond our control, the homework is not posted online, so the notebook is really, really important.) Help your student to develop good study skills and a life-long work ethic by reinforcing this one habit. Thanks for your help!
Your child will be bringing home his or her Progress Report today. Please review this report, and discuss with your child ways in which he or she can improve before the quarter ends on October 16th. It is not too late to bring up those grades, but some of our students will need to put forth maximum effort, both in class, and at home. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to set up a conference with your child’s teacher.
