Weekly Update May 20, 2016

Final PTO of the Year

Monday, May 16th found a throng of DRS families in Caddell Hall for the final PTO Meeting of the year.  The meeting began with the saying of Grace before everyone enjoyed eating from a plentiful buffet provided by our families.  A short business meeting was held to say good-bye to two School Advisory Board Members, Mr. Pat Davis, and Mrs. Mary Wijetunga.  The new board officers were announced, as follows:  President – Mr. Mike Lane, Vice-President – Mrs. Regina Soriano, and Secretary – Mrs. Angie Cease.  Other board members who will remain on the board will include:  Claudette Blanks, Lonnie Burbage, Renee Darnell, Cynthia Kirby, and Ben Mora.  There was a chance for all parents to sign up for committee work, and to express their children’s interest in a variety of sports which we hope to offer in the next school year, including:  Basketball, Cheerleading, Archery, Volleyball, Soccer, and Golf.  The meeting ended with Miss Lori distributing awards for Race for Education.  In addition to the top runners from each class receiving a trophy for his or her effort, some students got special recognition and prizes.  Gift cards were earned by Mary Teresa Provost, Mason Lane, Jonathan Ard, Sally Cease and Charlie Cease for special effort.  An IPOD Shuffle was earned by Christian Martinez-Colorado , and a month’s free tuition was won by Mary An Bramlett.  It was a great evening of celebrating!  Thanks to everyone who participated in this end-of-year event.

Proud of Eagle Alumni

We heard earlier this week from Bishop England High School that many of our alumni have been very successful in their high school careers.  It was reported previously that this year’s class Valedictorian is one of our very own grads – Miss Cathy DuTour.  Cathy was accepted to both University of Southern Mississippi and Western Carolina University.  Some of our other grads also received acceptance letters as follows:

Katie LeaMond – Furman and University of South Carolina
