Volunteers are a wonderful and important part of the culture at Divine Redeemer School. We need your help and thank you for your service. Because the safety and well-being of our children is a number one priority, all volunteers at DRS who could come in contact with children (i.e. all of them) must undergo training and complete a background check. The protection of our kids is non-negotiable, so anyone who appears to earn their volunteer time will be turned away if the following requirements are not met. For more information about our Safe School Policies, please contact the Safe Environment Coordinator, Lori Weigel at 553-1521 x218. For more information about the Diocese of Charleston’s Child Protection Services , visit their website: http://sccatholic.org/child-protection-services.
Under the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, all employees and those volunteers with access to children must complete a course in prevention education. The training program the Diocese of Charleston chooses to use is VIRTUS. Training sessions are made available in your area by trained facilitators who volunteer their time for the Diocese of Charleston. VIRTUS training will be offered at Divine Redeemer School on Tuesday, Sept 16 at 6:30 pm. If you are unable to attend one of these sessions, please use the VIRTUS website to locate and attend a training session.
To register for a session near you please follow these directions:
- Go to virtus.org.
- Click on the “Registration” tab on the left column.
- Select the Diocese of Charleston, SC from the drop-down menu.
- Complete your registration information and check the box next to the training session you wish to attend.
- Click “Submit Registration” You will get a message on-screen confirming your registration.
- Attend the session you have chosen. Be sure to sign the sign-in sheet at this session. This confirms your attendance and will be verified by The Office of Child Protection Services before approving your status through VIRTUS.
COMPLETE A VOLUNTEER PACKET
There are multiple forms that we need on file for all volunteers. These include a Signed Code of Conduct, and several required forms for the Diocese of Charleston. You will also find the Background Screening Forms in this packet. Please complete the packet in full and return to Lori Weigel in the school office. If you have questions about this form, please contact Lori at 553-1521 x218.
All volunteers must submit to a background check. Complete the Basic Data Form and sign the agreements in the Background Check packet and return them to the office.
FIELD TRIP DRIVERS
All volunteers who wish to drive for a class field trip must provide a copy of their Driver’s License and their Auto Insurance to Lori Weigel in advance. To make this easier on the teacher planning the field trip, we encourage you to file these items now. Please submit your copies along with your volunteer packets.
We have a need for a volunteer throughout the year at Divine Redeemer. From helping out in the library, to assisting with recess duty and planning for special events, there are many tasks that we can use you for! We make it easy for you to participate by having a club just for Parents to get involved and stay active with their children’s school lives. For more information about the Parents Club and Volunteer opportunities, please complete and return the Parent Club Membership and Volunteer Form.
